Spacefund
is a UK organisation dedicated to space education that works
with children at Primary Schools, Special Needs Schools, and
Science Events. Most Primary Schools are required by the National
Curriculum to teach the basics of
space science at Key Stages 1 &
2 but, while many teachers are enthusiastic about this
subject, it remains difficult to successfully convey such
visual and expansive concepts to young children. You may well
have recognised this yourself, and even the Curriculum notes
that; "A visit to a planetarium or of a starlab can enhance
the teaching of this topic." If
you would like your pupils to receive a thorough degree of
teaching in this fascinating field, and to enjoy a day at
school that's truly out of this world, then consider us. We
were voted Best New Business in Kent 2001 at the prestigious
Shell Livewire awards, and are now visiting schools and festivals
across the country with the highly praised 'Kids
in Space' science show - a colourful and lively performance that
uses all manner of props and demonstrations to cover the key
National Curriculum Statements and really bring the subject
to life. The
'Kids in Space' science show is theatrical
in nature with lots of audience interaction, and can be performed
in an assembly hall, sports hall, or even a large classroom.
Pupils are enrolled as 'crewmen', and journey with us on an
interplanetary space flight around the solar system that takes
in all the sights; a reconstruction of Neil Armstrong's famous
footstep, a hunt for alien life on Mars, a bombardment by
Asteroids, and built to scale planet models that dramatically
show how our little Earth compares with its giant neighbours!
 The
show can be performed for up to 150 pupils and lasts approximately
one hour, with the performers requiring an additional hour
on either side of this for setting up and dismantling the
production.
We
aim to provide those children that see the show with a lasting
interest in space, while schools and event organisers can
rely on us to deliver our services to them at a fair and affordable
rate (£295 for a single performance and just £100 for additional performances). Why not have a look at what Comments other teachers
and event organisers have made about Spacefund and the 'Kids
in Space Show'.
Please
feel free to Contact Us and discuss
your needs. We hope that you now have a better idea of our
activities, and we'd be very pleased to bring the 'Kids in
Space' show to your school or science event some day soon.
